NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, or official.
The race director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.
NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATIONS OF SPECIFICATIONS. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final.
The Management of Huntsville Speedway
WARNING
The intent and interpretation of the rules will be the decision of HS management/officials. It is strongly recommended that anyone having questions and/or doubt about the interpretation or intent of the rules follow-up with HS management/officials before a race event or after a race event. NO PARTY shall be allowed to distract a track official while a racing event is in progress. All decisions of HS management/officials will be final and WILL NOT be subject to appeal by any participant or party. Huntsville Speedway management/officials reserve the right to change and/or amend any general or division rules AT ANY TIME without notification or consultation in the interest of promoting better competition.
Code of Conduct

Failure to control the actions of these guests could result in penalties and reprimands the extent of which will be determined by speedway management.
5. WARNING – Stay in your own pit. Remember, your pit space is your assigned area for the race event. Treat each driver’s pit space with the respect you would demand of your own by not trespassing in their area. NO GOOD comes from entering another driver’s space after an on track incident. We recommend trying to communicate with the other party in a common area, or by asking from the area outside of their pit if they wish to speak with you. In many cases, time is more effective at resolving disputes than conversation.
6. Any physical altercation in the arena of competition, which may be classified as fighting or any other unacceptable activity with the intent of causing physical harm to another party, may result in suspension from participation for time period to be determined by Huntsville Speedway management and/or officials. THESE DECISIONS WILL BE FINAL AND WILL NOT BE SUBJECT TO APPEAL.
7. Individuals engaging in behavior on social media that may be considered detrimental to the sport of stock car racing and/or Huntsville Speedway and its brand, may be disallowed from participation in activities of any kind at Huntsville Speedway or any of its sanctioned off premises events.
8. NO DRUGS, NO ALCOHOL, NO GLASS CONTAINERS, NO OPEN FLAMES, NO FIREWORKS (excepting those provided in a professional display sponsored by the speedway), NO WEAPONS, AND NO FIREARMS (excepting those parties in law enforcement providing security) PERMITTED ON SPEEDWAY PROPERTY. NO EXCEPTIONS. Failure to abide by this rule may result in automatic suspension and removal. A breathalyzer test is available to speedway officials at all times and may be used at any time. REFUSING to take a breathalyzer test when requested by a track official may result in immediate suspension and will be immediately evicted from the pit area.
9. NO LITTERING! TRASH RECEPTACLES ARE AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE SPEEDWAY PROPERTY. PATRONS ARE EXPECTED TO BEHAVE LIKE CIVILIZED HUMAN BEINGS AND PLACE ALL TRASH IN A TRASH RECEPTACLE AND NOT ON THE GROUND IN THE PIT AREA. FINES MAY BE IMPOSED ON OFFENDING PARTIES!
10. OFF-ROAD VEHICLES/GOLF CARTS/ATVs – A permit must be purchased at the back gate for any such vehicle to operate on speedway property. Proof of insurance must be presented at the time the permit is purchased. Wheelchairs/assisted mobility devices (hover-rounds) are excluded. Patrons who have a physical disability and require assistance are encouraged to notify a speedway employee upon arrival.
11. ANY COMPETITOR WHO IS DEEMED TO BE ENGAGING IN BLATANTLY OVERAGGRESSIVE DRIVING WILL BE ISSUED ONE (1) PULL OVER WARNING BY AN ON TRACK OFFICIAL. OVERAGGRESSIVE DRIVING BY THE SAME DRIVER OCCURRING AFTER THE PULL OVER WARNING WILL BE DEALT WITH BY IMMEDIATE BLACK FLAG. ANY DRIVER WHO PERSISTS IN THIS BEHAVIOR AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN BLACK FLAGGED WILL BE SUBJECT TO FINE AND/OR SUSPENSION FROM COMPETITION FOR A TIME PERIOD THAT WILL BE AT THE DISCRETION OF TRACK MANAGEMENT.
12. THERE MAY BE LEGAL RAMIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL ASSAULT ON AN INDIVIDUAL AND/OR ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON CHARGES FOR GOING AFTER ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL OR THEIR CAR WITH YOUR RACE VEHICLE. THE RACE TRACK DOES NOT EXIST IN A LEGAL VACUUM WHERE LEGAL REMEDIES CANNOT BE PURSUED AND SIGNING THE WAIVER AT THE BACK GATE PROVIDES YOU NO PROTECTION FROM FEDERAL, STATE, AND/OR COUNTY LAW.

15. ALL DECISIONS OF THE MANAGEMENT AND/OR OFFICIALS WILL BE FINAL IN MATTERS OF CONDUCT. NO EXCEPTIONS and NO APPEALS!
Safety Rules
- Apparel – All safety apparel must be worn while on the racing surface. This will be enforced for practice and race dates.
- All drivers must use an appropriate racing helmet that meets Snell SA safety guidelines and the approval of the Huntsville Speedway technical inspector. A full-face helmet is suggested. Goggles and/or face shield required.
- An SFI certified fire suit is required and must be worn correctly (to manufacturer’s specifications) during any on-track activity. SFI certified fireproof gloves and shoes are mandatory. Leather fire-retardant boots will be allowed.
- It is recommended that the steering wheel center be padded with at least 2” of fire resistant material.
- Steering wheel must be quick release type for all divisions.
- Left side window net with a highly visible quick release at the top of the A-post is required and must be secured during any on track activity.

- A 2 pound fully operational fire extinguisher with a working gauge, secured with an all steel safety strap, is MANDATORY. A five-pound HALON on-board fire extinguisher system is preferred.
- All cars must be self-starting. If division rules allow battery in driver’s area, it must be fully enclosed, safely mounted, and equipped an on/off switch in reach of the driver.
- RADIOS – RACING RADIOS ARE AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT MEANS OF COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR CREW AND THE MOST IMPORTANT WAY FOR THEM TO NOTIFY YOU OF IMPENDING DANGER. RACING RADIOS ARE PERMITTED IN ALL DIVISIONS AT HUNTSVILLE SPEEDWAY. YOU NEED TO HAVE A RACING RADIO ANYTIME YOU ARE ON THE TRACK, INCLUDING PRACTICE, AND IT NEEDS TO BE IN PROPER WORKING ORDER.
Roll Bars and Seat
- Racing type seat required. No fiberglass seats are allowed.
- Seat must be mounted using manufacturer specifications to the roll cage and NOT to floor pan.
- A minimum 4 point steel roll cage is mandatory. Roll bars must be welded. No pipe fitting. Roll bars must be minimum 14 gauge and 1 ¾” in diameter. HS officials will inspect and approve all roll cages.
- All roll bars within drivers reach should be padded with fire resistant material.
- A minimum 1/8” steel plate should be welded between door bars on driver side from A-post to B-post in all divisions.
- It is recommended that all seats should have left and right side head rests.
Fuel Cell
- A fuel cell is required with the exception of the Buzz and Hot Shot classes. IF a driver/team elects to upgrade a Buzz or Hot Shot car to an aftermarket fuel cell, it must have a firewall separating the fuel cell from the driver, and have all appropriate safety devices and features in place for the equipment being used.
Any and all fuel systems are subject to the inspection and approval of Huntsville Speedway technical inspectors. - Fuel cell maximum size is 22 gallons.
- It is recommended that fuel cell should be located as far forward as possible, but stay behind the differential housing. Fuel cell must be between frame rails with proper ground clearance and secured with two 1/8” x 2” steel straps or four 1/8” X 1” steel straps and must be approved by HS officials. NOTE: Ground clearance depends upon division – see division rules.
- Fuel must be pump style only. No alcohol, methanol, E-85, or nitrous oxide permitted. No hazardous chemical mixtures are allowed.
- No pressurized fuel systems or electric fuel pumps allowed with the exception of factory stock EFI controlled vehicles. NO fuel pump should exceed 10 PSI under operating conditions with the exception of factory stock EFI controlled vehicles. Stock type, mechanical fuel pumps ONLY.
- Fuel cell caps must be in closed position at all times while car is on the track. Caps should be safety wired to prevent loss.
- HS management/officials request that all divisions with spec engine rules use Huntsville Speedway fuel and that all fuel purchases be made at the Speedway. Your fuel purchases at Huntsville Speedway not only support your local track, but also insure that you and your fellow drivers are competing with a legal, untainted fuel product. Fuel samples will be subject to analysis. Fuels not matching the fuel supplied by Huntsville Speedway upon analysis will result in immediate disqualification with no appeal rights afforded. Choose wisely!
Glass
- Front windshield is required. Open Wheel Modified, Buzz, and Hot Shot divisions see division rules for clarification.
- Plexiglass is NOT allowed in any location on the car. ONLY Lexan is permitted for windshields, side windows, wing windows, and rear spoiler.
Cooling System
No antifreeze (propylene or ethylene glycol) is allowed. No additives with antifreeze like substances are allowed. Drivers/teams caught running antifreeze or antifreeze like substances will be levied a $250 fine per incident.
2. Huntsville Speedway suggests that all radiator overflow tubes be routed to the right side windshield post. This lets everyone know to use caution when approaching the vehicle.
Bodies
Race vehicles must have a neat appearance. Show pride in all your hard work and time. All aerodynamic body modifications are unacceptable unless provided for in your individual division rules. Just because it does not say you can’t, doesn’t mean you can. ASK FIRST!
2. Numbers must be of distinguishable color and must be at least 20” tall. Numbers must appear on both sides and on the roof of the race vehicle in order to be scored correctly. Numbers should also appear on the left rear taillight and front right headlight so on-track crew members can better identify your race vehicle. Chrome or highly reflective numbers may adversely affect the lap timer. Again, CHOOSE WISELY!
3. All race vehicles must reserve 6” X 48” of space across the top of the windshield for division sponsor’s name. Open Wheel Modified cars please reserve backside of rear spoiler. 4. If a division has a division sponsor, Huntsville Speedway may require that all vehicles in that division carry the sponsor’s decal to support both the sponsor and the Speedway. Any driver REFUSING to carry the appropriate Speedway approved decal will not be awarded championship points and will not receive any bonus money provided by the sponsor above the regular posted Speedway payout.
Tires
Huntsville Speedway/Sayre Speedway American Racer KK-704 tires will be required for all V-8 divisions. All other divisions should refer to their division specific rules for tire requirements.
2. All race vehicles must compete only on tires officially approved and/or marked by Huntsville Speedway.
3. Tire soaking is allowed in all divisions. HOWEVER, it may not be done on Huntsville Speedway property.
4. There will be a $25 PER TIRE restocking fee for any unused tires that are returned to the Huntsville Speedway Tire Barn. TIRES MUST BE IN NEW, UNUSED CONDITION. Refunds will be issued via a check from the Huntsville Speedway office. There will be a $10 PER TIRE exchange fee for exchanging a tire for another tire in stock.
Driver and Car Registration
1. All drivers must complete the Huntsville Speedway drivers’ information form and IRS W-9 form annually before being able to compete in races at HS. When the form is turned in to the office, you will reserve your race vehicle number. The number you reserve will be yours for the entire season and no changes will be allowed.
Inspection
1. Inspection of participants’ vehicles will be accomplished at the sole discretion of the officials.
2. Race vehicles are subject to being inspected at any time after entering the pits, as determined by officials. Inspection may take place before, during, and/or after race events.
3. There will be NO compensation for teardown or inspection.
4. It will be the responsibility of the top 3 finishing drivers in each division to move their race vehicles to the designated inspection area immediately following the race.
5. Officials have the right to limit admittance to the inspection area. No more than three team members are allowed.
6. Drivers, team owner, and crew members may be disqualified for failure to observe and adhere to the rules as interpreted by officials, resulting in forfeiture of points and/or prize money.
7. Any driver/team refusing inspection is automatically disqualified and will be awarded NO points or prize money.
8. Drivers and/or team members who are non-compliant with speedway officials may invoke an immediate disqualification for their driver.
Weight
1. Scales are normally open two hours prior to event start time.
2. Weighing the participants’ vehicles will be accomplished at the sole discretion of the officials. Race vehicles are subject to being weighed at any time after entering the pits, as determined by officials. Weighing may take place before, during, and/or after race events.
3. The top 3 finishing race vehicles will be weighed at the end of the division’s feature race. ALL finishers should remain prepared to enter technical inspection until the results of the feature have been deemed official.
4. When a division is qualified, all vehicles must go directly to the scales and be weighed immediately after the vehicle comes off of the racing surface. If a vehicle goes to their pit area before going over the scales, their qualifying time may be disallowed.
5. It will be the responsibility of the driver to move his/her race vehicle to the scales immediately following qualifying and race, as instructed by the HS officials.
6. The first place finisher will proceed to victory lane upon race completion.
7. If a race vehicle incurs a weight loss during an event and/or before it reaches the scales at the end of an event, and does not weigh enough it is subject to an automatic penalty of disqualification. The only exception will be body parts that are lost during that race, which may be added back to race vehicle. Parts that can be added back will be determined by scale official.
8. Driver must accompany the race vehicle to scales.
9. When race vehicles are being weighed, driver must be in race position by sitting upright, with both hands positioned on steering wheel, and helmet in his/her lap.
10. All ballast weight must be steel or lead ONLY, and be bolted or secured at all times.
11. No unsecured ballast weight inside of driver’s compartment (i.e. lead filled water bottles, altered radios).
12. All weight must be painted white with your vehicle number on each piece of weight. Any weight not meeting this requirement could result in immediate disqualification.
13. Lost weight may be purchased back for a fee of $10 per pound but can NOT be added to the final post-race weight. Fee must be paid to the scale official prior to receiving the weight.
14. Weight shifting devices, lead pellets, and liquid weights are NOT allowed.
15. THE OFFICIAL WEIGHT OBTAINED BY THE SCALES OF HUNTSVILLE SPEEDWAY WILL BE DEEMED AS THE OFFICIAL WEIGHT FOR THE RACE VEHICLE. Weights obtained on independent scales will not be recognized or acknowledged. Drivers, car owner, and crew members may be disqualified for failure to observe and adhere to the rules as interpreted by officials, resulting in forfeiture of points and/or prize money.
Pit Safety
1. TRAFFIC MAY EXIT THE PITS UNDER RACE CONDITIONS OUT OF TURN ONE AND TURN THREE. YOU MAY ENTER AT ANY OTHER PIT ENTRANCE FROM THE RACING SURFACE. DURING PRACTICE, WE REQUIRE THAT YOU EXIT THE PITS ONTO THE RACING SURFACE OUT OF TURN ONE ONLY SO THAT WE MAY CONTROL THE VOLUME OF TRAFFIC ON THE TRACK AT ANY GIVEN TIME. THIS IS TO HELP ELIMINATE SPEEDING IN THE PITS. DRIVERS TRAVELING AT EXCESSIVE SPEEDS IN THE PITS MAY RECEIVE ONE WARNING BY A TRACK OFFICIAL. UPON THE NEXT VIOLATION THEY WILL BE SUBJECT TO FINE AND/OR SUSPENSION BY SPEEDWAY MANAGEMENT. ALWAYS BE AWARE AND GO SLOW!
2. PEDESTRIANS AND CREW MEMBERS REMAIN IN YOUR PIT AREAS AND OUT OF TRAFFIC LANES. STAY OFF OF THE PIT WALLS AT ALL TIMES. LINES ARE IN PLACE INSIDE THE PIT LANES. THE INSIDE LANE IS TO BE USED FOR PITTING. WE EXPECT YOU TO HAVE YOUR RACE VEHICLE INSIDE THAT LANE WHILE PITTING. THE OUTSIDE LANE IS INTENDED FOR EXITING THE PIT. DO NOT BLOCK THE EXIT LANE WITH CARS, TIRES, JACKS, OR CREW MEMBERS WHILE YOU ARE PITTING. DURING RACE CONDITIONS ALL CREW MEMBERS, FAMILY, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN, SHOULD BE BEHIND THE YELLOW LINE AT THE END OF THE PIT BOX. ONE WARNING WILL BE ISSUED! YOU MAY THEN BE ESCORTED TO THE GRANDSTANDS OR ESCORTED FROM THE PROPERTY. AROUND THE CURVED WALLS IN THE PITS, YOU NEED TO BE A MINIMUM OF 10 FEET BACK FROM THE WALL WHILE THE TRACK IS HOT! ONE WARNING WILL BE ISSUED, THEN YOU WILL BE ESCORTED OUT OF THE PITS! NO EXCEPTIONS!
3. ANY CREW MEMBER SERVICING A RACE VEHICLE ON PIT ROAD MUST BE WEARING CLOSED TOED SHOES.
4. NO ONE MAY CROSS THE TRACK WHILE RACE VEHICLES ARE ON THE TRACK. ONLY IN DIRE EMERGENCY, ANY INDIVIDUAL MAY BE ESCORTED ACROSS THE TRACK BY A TRACK OFFICIAL WHEN CONDITIONS ARE SAFE. THIS WILL NOT BE ABUSED.
5. DURING A CAUTION, THE DRIVER(S) INVOLVED SHOULD STAY IN THEIR VEHICLE UNTIL THE FIELD HAS SLOWED AND MUST STAY WITH THEIR VEHICLE AT ALL TIMES. DRIVERS WHO ABANDON THEIR VEHICLE ON THE RACE TRACK FOLLOWING A CAUTION OR AFTER BEING BLACK FLAGGED THAT INTENTIONALLY OBSTRUCT THE RACE PROCEEDINGS MAY BE SUBJECT TO PENALTIES NOT LIMITED TO A FINE AND/OR SUSPENSION FROM COMPETITION FOR A TIME TO BE DETERMINED BY MANAGEMENT.
6. DRIVERS MAY NOT APPROACH A MOVING RACE CAR ON FOOT. NO CREW MEMBERS ARE ALLOWED ON TRACK DURING A CAUTION PERIOD UNLESS DIRECTED BY TRACK OFFICIALS. ALLOW THE TRACK OFFICIALS AND SAFETY CREWS TO DO THEIR JOBS.
7. BE AWARE OF THE TRACK SAFETY PERSONNEL AS THEY MOVE AROUND THE PITS AND TRACK DURING CAUTION. THESE PROFESSIONALS ARE HERE TO HELP PROTECT YOU! WE ALSO ASK THAT YOU PLACE SOME TYPE OF REFLECTIVE STICKER ON YOUR ROLL CAGE TO INDICATE WHERE YOUR WINDOW NET LATCH IS LOCATED. YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON BEING ABLE TO FIND YOUR WINDOW NET LATCH!
8. ALL RACE COMPETITORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO KEEP BODY PANELS IN GOOD REPAIR TO MINIMIZE SHARP EDGES THAT MAY POSE RISK OF BODILY HARM TO OTHER DRIVERS/CREW, TRACK OFFICIALS, AND TECH INSPECTORS. ALSO, RACE VEHICLES SHOULD BE CLEANED OUT BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE TRACK WITH ANY AND ALL LOOSE DEBRIS SUCH AS LEAVES, TREE LIMBS, DIRT, AND ASSOCIATED ITEMS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE BEFORE ENTERING THE PROPERTY. HUNTSVILLE SPEEDWAY, ITS MANAGEMENT, OWNERSHIP, AND EMPLOYEES SHALL NOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES INCURRED BY A RACE VEHICLE OF ANY TYPE.
9. NO PATRON SHALL RIDE OR HANG OUTSIDE OF A TOW VEHICLE (ON TRAILER HITCH, ON TOP OF TRAILER, HANGING OUT OF SIDE DOOR, ON THE BUMPER OF TOW VEHICLE) ON SPEEDWAY PROPERTY. YOU ARE NOT RIDING IN A PARADE WHILE EN ROUTE TO YOUR PIT AREA, BUT YOU COULD EASILY BE RIDING IN A FUNERAL PROCESSION ON MONDAY MORNING. SUCCESS BEGINS WITH SMART CHOICES.
Race and Qualifying Procedures
1. Insurance regulations require that any drivers competing at HS must obtain prior approval from Huntsville Speedway’s management in order to be eligible to compete.
2. It is considered unsportsmanlike conduct to block or cut up/down on a fellow driver. Officials will impose penalties as they see fit. Respect your fellow drivers as you expect them to respect you. Race and show respect.
3. All scoreboard displays and announcer commentary are for entertainment purposes only and are not considered official. Decision of the race director shall be final. No appeals afforded.
4. All drivers will qualify or draw for starting positions. Divisions that will be qualifying for any given week will be announced in the Race Day Schedule for that week and will be subject to change due to weather and/or car count. ALL Drivers or their representatives of the team MUST register upon arrival to the track. Drivers or their representatives must draw for position IF their division is not qualifying. Anyone who has not drawn 30 minutes prior to drivers’ meeting will start in the rear of the field. Once qualifying is announced for your class, you have five (5) minutes to be in line. If you are not in line in five (5) minutes, you will not be allowed to qualify.
5. Drivers or crew members are expected to bring their race vehicles to the starting grid in a reasonable amount of time when their division is called. The Race Day Schedule provides you with the time when your division’s race will be run. BE PREPARED.
6. Qualifying will be at a designated time on race day. Any driver change or change of car, following qualifying will result in forfeiture of the qualifying position and placement to the rear of the field. If more than one car is involved, position will be determined by order of events. If a driver is affected by adverse race track conditions, (i.e. a blown engine by the preceding car), the driver may be given another opportunity at his/her qualifying laps after the track crew has cleaned the track surface to the best of their ability. This is a privilege, not a right, and it will not be abused.
7. Any race vehicles one or more laps down, are expected to move to the INSIDE with caution for lead lap vehicles to pass. Lapped vehicles must allow lead cars to pass to the outside without any interference. Any race vehicles causing problems for the leaders will be parked.
8. Any race vehicle in any division must be able to maintain a safe speed while on the racing surface under race conditions. THE VEHICLE MUST NOT INTERFERE WITH LEAD LAP VEHICLES. Race vehicles not meeting this requirement will be subject to black flag from the race director and asked not to return to the event.
9. The enforcement of the black flag will be determined BASED ON THE INFRACTION by the flagman and race director. Black flags may be imposed for infractions ranging from a body panel hazard which can be repaired and the driver return to the race to an overaggressive driving violation which can end the driver’s race. Drivers may also be warned by the flagman with a rolled black flag before drawing the full black flag penalty.
10. SPIN RULE – THE DRIVER(S) FOR WHOM THE CAUTION WAS THROWN WILL BE PLACED TO THE REAR OF THE FIELD. BOTH THE DRIVER WHO SPINS AND THE DRIVER WHO CAUSED THE SPIN OR CRASH WILL GO TO THE REAR. THE INTENTION SHOULD BE TO RACE OTHERS THE WAY YOU WISH TO BE RACED. WE HAVE AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE CONSISTENT ON THIS. DRIVERS WHO SPIN TO AVOID COLLISION WILL NOT BE PENALIZED.
10a. LAST LAP SPIN RULE – This rule applies to lead lap vehicles on the final lap of an event, after the leader has taken the white flag and the field is racing back to the checkered flag. If a vehicle instigates/creates/causes a spin of another lead lap vehicle, the vehicle creating the spin will be scored in the position behind the vehicle(s) he or she spun in the final finishing order. For example, if the fourth place vehicle spins the third place vehicle, resulting in the third place vehicle ultimately crossing the start/finish line and taking the checkered flag in the 12th position, then the offending vehicle will be scored in 13th position. This rule does not supercede or replace the No Spin to Win rule that applies solely to the vehicles running in first and second positions.
SPORTSMANSHIP CLAUSE: IF A DRIVER INSTIGATES A SPIN OR CRASH AND WISHES TO CLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR CAUSING THE INCIDENT, HE OR SHE MAY REACH TO THE ROOF OF THEIR RACE VEHICLE AND TAP THEIR ROOF WITHIN VIEW OF THE FLAGMAN AND RACE CONTROL. THE DRIVER WHO WAS SPUN/WRECKED WILL BE ALLOWED TO RETAKE THEIR POSITION IN THE RUNNING ORDER IF POSSIBLE AND THE DRIVER TAKING RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE PLACED AT THE REAR OF THE FIELD FOR THE SUBSEQUENT RESTART. THE SPORTSMANSHIP RULE CAN NOT BE USED TO ALTER THE RESTART ORDER OF A RACE AS DETERMINED BY SCORING. IF A DRIVER WISHES TO YIELD A POSITION TO ANOTHER DRIVER ON A RESTART, THEY MUST FALL BEHIND ALL OTHER DRIVERS ON THE LEAD LAP. THIS CLAUSE CANNOT BE UTILIZED ON THE LAST LAP.
11. Lead lap vehicles will get their spot back if a spin results in contact with lapped traffic AS LONG AS the lead vehicle does not have to enter the pit for repairs or service. If the lead vehicle pits, it will restart at the end of the field, in front of the first car one or more laps down. If the lead lap vehicle initiates the contact, then the lead lap vehicle will go to the rear.
12. When race line up has been determined via qualifying, inversion, draw, etc. Any vehicle that drops out of the race or loses its position for whatever reason, line up will be determined by moving that row of vehicles straight forward. Officials may revise line up before the start of the race.
13. No position change or passing will be allowed on the final pace lap. Drivers are expected to maintain pace car speed while proceeding to the start zone. Failure to comply with these rules may result in loss of starting position.
14. Officials have the right to consult with a driver without loss of position to the driver. Consultation with officials is allowed on the front straightaway at the turn 1 pit exit. A driver may ask for the race director/chief scorer to recheck scoring. No arguments or debate will be entertained during a race. Any driver who stops on the track and refuses to continue after decision is made will be subject to being placed on the rear of the field, and/or being scored as losing a lap or laps to the leader. Scoring goes back to last completed green flag lap. Drivers who refuse to comply will be escorted from the racing surface by track officials and/or police.
15. Races are line scored at Huntsville Speedway. You cannot lose any laps in the pits or on the track under caution, only under green flag racing conditions. In line scoring, a complete lap is scored when the race vehicle crosses the start/finish line on the frontstretch on the racing surface, makes one complete circuit around the track, and crosses the start/finish line on the frontstretch on the racing surface again while under the green flag. In line scoring, the start/finish line DOES NOT cross pit road, ergo you cannot be scored on pit road.
16. a) If a race vehicle has suffered damage that creates an environment on the track that may endanger other drivers, or has a noticeable fluid leak, the flagman and/or track official will pull vehicle over for consultation and inspection at the turn 1 pit exit. Vehicle must go to pits for repair if repairs are deemed necessary after inspection. The driver will be granted the customary three (3) laps as is awarded to a driver pitting who is involved in caution and will return to the end of the field at the end of the lead lap. If the vehicle is able to continue without pitting, it may return to its previous position in the running order.
b) If a driver creates a caution situation as a result of losing any part or piece of their race vehicle which puts debris down on the racing surface, and the aforementioned debris can be positively associated with the guilty party, that car will restart the race in the rear and will not be eligible to use the cone if applicable for that division.
17. a) Any driver who refuses to remove his race vehicle from the track upon request from the officials will be disqualified and/or suspended.
b) Any driver who exits their race vehicle on the race track during green flag or caution conditions creates a potentially deadly risk to themselves and others and may be subject to penalty, including but not limited to disqualification, fines, and/or suspensions. Exclusions may include instances where a driver’s life may be in danger from a situation involving the race vehicle or if asked to exit a race vehicle by a track official. Any other unforeseen circumstances not enumerated here would be at the sole discretion of track management.
18. THE FLAGMAN STARTS THE RACE WITH THE GREEN FLAG. THE OUTSIDE LINE SHOULD STAY EVEN WITH OR SLIGHTLY BEHIND THE LEADER ON THE INSIDE LINE. DO NOT FIRE BEFORE THE DOUBLE LINES BETWEEN TURNS 3 AND 4. IF THE FLAGMAN DEEMS YOU HAVE JUMPED THE START, HE WILL ISSUE ONE WARNING. IF YOU JUMP THE NEXT START, YOU WILL BE PLACED ON THE REAR OF THE FIELD. ON ALL RESTARTS, THE LEADER OF THE RACE CONTROLS THE START. AGAIN, DO NOT FIRE BEFORE THE YELLOW LINES BETWEEN TURNS 3 AND 4, BUT YOU MUST FIRE BY THE TIME YOU REACH THE SOLID WHITE LINE AT THE EXIT OF TURN 4 OR THE FIELD WILL FALL BACK UNDER CONTROL OF THE FLAGMAN WHO WOULD THEN START THE RACE WITH THE DROP OF THE GREEN FLAG.
19. Completion of the first lap shall be when the lead vehicle crosses the start-finish line for the first time after the green flag is displayed to all race vehicles WITH NO CAUTION OCCURRING.
20. If the race is stopped or caution occurs before the first lap is completed there will be a complete re-start and all vehicles return to their original positions, unless a vehicle chooses to pit. Vehicles choosing to pit must go to the rear of the field for the restart and the row will be moved forward. No vehicle or driver changes can be made after the initial green flag is displayed.
21. NO repairs to any race vehicle on the racing surface at ANYTIME by drivers or crew members. This includes pit crew members reaching to the race vehicle over a retaining barrier with tools or person from the pits while the vehicle sits on the racing surface. If this rule is violated, vehicle will go to the rear and the offending crew members will be ejected from the pit area.
22. In the event of an accident, disabled vehicles will be towed immediately to the infield area. All participants except officials, wreckers, ambulance, and track crew must stay off the track unless directed by a track official.
23. When an accident or oil spill occurs, the officials may red flag the event if clean-up is expected to exceed 3 laps or if the racing surface is blocked or unsafe. When the red flag is lifted, race vehicles will receive at least two full laps under caution and then resume green flag racing. If oil dry is used, officials may deem it necessary to run two or more warm-up laps with race vehicles on track to run-in oil dry. Drivers who avoid the oil dry or make a point to not assist in returning the track surface to a raceable condition may be penalized to restart on the rear.
24. When caution or red flag is displayed, the starting order for the restart will be determined according to last full green lap completed. Vehicles choosing to pit must fall in at the rear of the field for the restart in the order they exited the pit lane. If the event is called prior to restart, the finishing order will be determined by the last completed green flag lap.
25. DRIVERS/VEHICLES WHO ARE DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN A CAUTION INCIDENT (I.E. THE CAUTION WAS CALLED FOR YOUR VEHICLE) WILL BE GIVEN THREE LAPS FROM THE TIME THEIR VEHICLE REACHES THEIR PIT STALL TO DETERMINE IF REPAIRS CAN BE MADE AND EFFECT THOSE REPAIRS. DRIVERS WHO ARE NOT DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN THE CAUTION WILL NOT BE GIVEN THREE LAPS IF THEY CHOOSE TO PIT. FOR EXAMPLE, IF TWO DRIVERS IN A CAUTION COME TO THEIR PITS TO MAKE REPAIRS AND THEIR THREE LAPS HAVE ELAPSED, AND A DRIVER ON TRACK DECIDES TO ENTER THE PITS FOR SERVICE, THAT DRIVER WILL NOT BE GIVEN THREE LAPS BEFORE THE RACE RETURNS TO GREEN AS THEY WERE NOT DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN THE CAUTION.
26. Any vehicle that speeds in the pits, in the opinion of HS management/official is subject to disqualification, a fine/penalty, and/or suspension. Everyone should always be aware in the pit area. SLOW DOWN AND BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS.
27. On restarts, the race is started for all drivers when the leader fires and takes the green flag. However, trailing cars will not advance their position except for an outside pass before crossing the start-finish line and taking the green flag. Example: 10th place car starts racing when green flag is displayed to the leader, and the green light is on. 10th place car may begin passing maneuvers immediately as long as they are on the outside lane. The race vehicle may pass and race at will after crossing the start-finish line, thus receiving the green flag.
28. If a race vehicle slows or stops bringing out the caution, it must remain stopped on the track until help arrives or driver will be penalized one lap. Also, any driver intentionally drawing a caution by ejecting any type of debris from their race vehicle will be penalized one lap. This act must be witnessed by a track official. We will not penalize based on hearsay from bystanders.
29. If the official flagman displays a black flag to any car, it must adhere to the flag within 3 laps. Car will not be scored after receiving the black flag for 3 consecutive laps and will forfeit all prize money and points.
30. In the event two cars cross the start-finish line at the same time and it cannot be determined who is ahead on the lap, the lead will be given to the car that was the leader of the previous lap.
31. In the event that any driver is involved in an accident serious enough to require the race vehicle be towed, the driver must be evaluated by medical staff (HEMSI) and cleared prior to leaving the track. Should a driver decline evaluation, they may be subject to suspension.
32. LUCKY DOG – WHEN A CAUTION IS DISPLAYED DURING AN EVENT, THE FIRST RACE VEHICLE THAT IS ONE OR MORE LAPS DOWN WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE LUCKY DOG. THE DRIVER WILL BE MOTIONED AROUND THE PACE CAR AND ALLOWED TO BECOME THE FINAL CAR ON THE LEAD LAP. A CAR/DRIVER MAY ONLY GAIN ONE (1) LAP PER CAUTION PERIOD. LAPPED CARS WILL BE SEQUENCED ACCORDING TO SCORING AS CARS ONE LAP DOWN, TWO LAPS DOWN, ETC. IF THERE ARE NO CARS ONE LAP DOWN, THE FIRST CAR TWO LAPS DOWN WILL BE AWARDED ONE LAP BACK, ETC. IN DIVISIONS THAT UTILIZE THE CONE FOR RESTARTS, THE RECIPIENT OF THE LUCKY DOG WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO USE THE CONE UNTIL ONE FULL LAP IS COMPLETED UNDER GREEN. AT THE NEXT CAUTION, THE LUCKY DOG RECIPIENT WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE CONE.
33. ALL DIVISIONS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF LATE MODEL AND OPEN WHEEL MODIFIED (MANDATORY DOUBLE FILE RESTARTS) AND ANY GUEST DIVISION THAT UTILIZES THEIR OWN START PROTOCOL WILL UTILIZE THE CONE RESTART PROCEDURE. EFFECTIVE IN THE 2022 SEASON, ALL RESTARTS WILL BE DOUBLE FILE OR USE THE CONE THROUGH THE CONCLUSION OF THE RACE. THERE WILL BE NO SINGLE FILE RESTARTS.
RACE RESTART PROCEDURE USING THE RESTART CONE
RACE RESTARTS, FOLLOWING THE INITIAL GREEN FLAG TO START THE EVENT AND AFTER A FULL LAP HAS BEEN COMPLETED UNDER GREEN, SHALL BE SEQUENCED USING THE “RESTART CONE.” THE PROCEDURE FOR THIS PROCESS IS AS FOLLOWS.
WHEN THE FLAGMAN GIVES THE FIELD THE INDICATION THAT ONE LAP UNDER CAUTION REMAINS UNTIL THE GREEN FLAG, A STANDARD ORANGE SAFETY CONE WILL BE PLACED AT THE MIDPOINT OF THE RACING SURFACE ON THE FRONTSTRETCH BY A TRACK OFFICIAL. WHEN THE FIELD APPROACHES THE CONE, THE LEADER WILL RETAIN LANE OPTION, MEANING THE RACE LEADER MAY ELECT TO RESTART THE EVENT IN THE UPPER RACING LANE, OR IN THE LOWER RACING LANE. ONCE THE LEADER HAS COMMITTED TO HIS LANE, DRIVERS IN POSITION 2 BACK THROUGH THE FIELD MAY VOLUNTARILY ELECT TO CHOOSE THE UPPER RACING LANE, OR REMAIN IN THE LOWER RACING LANE TO RESTART THE EVENT. DRIVERS MAY CHOOSE TO NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE RESTART CONE AND STAY IN THE LOWER, PREFERRED RACING GROOVE. HOWEVER, THOSE DRIVERS MAY BE SURPASSED IN THE STARTING ORDER BY DRIVERS BEHIND THEM WHO ELECT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE CONE AND START IN THE UPPER RACING LANE, TAKING THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEMPT TO BETTER THEIR POSITION.
ONCE A DRIVER HAS PASSED THE CONE AND MADE THEIR LANE SELECTION, THEY ARE COMMITTED TO THAT STARTING POSITION FOR THE BALANCE OF THE RESTART. THEY MAY NOT MOVE BACK INTO THEIR PREVIOUS POSITION PRIOR TO USING THE RESTART CONE.
ONCE ALL DRIVERS HAVE PASSED THE CONE, THE RESTART CONE WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE RACING SURFACE, AND THIS WILL CONSTITUTE THE RESTART ORDER FOR THE FIELD AS IT COMES TO THE GREEN FLAG.
AFTER THE FIELD TAKES THE GREEN FLAG ON THE RESTART, THE FIELD MUST COMPLETE ONE FULL LAP UNDER GREEN. IF THE FIELD DOES NOT COMPLETE ONE FULL LAP UNDER GREEN, SCORING WILL REVERT TO THE LAST COMPLETED GREEN FLAG LAP FOR THE RUNNING ORDER, AND THE CONE WILL BE REINTRODUCED. DRIVERS MAY THEN MAKE THEIR LANE SELECTIONS OVER AGAIN, BUT WILL NOT BE COMMITTED TO THE CHOICE THEY MADE PREVIOUSLY.
THE DRIVER(S) WHO PRODUCED THE CAUTION PERIOD NECESSITATING A RESTART, AND/OR RACE VEHICLES 1 OR MORE LAPS DOWN WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE THE RESTART CONE, AND THEY MUST RESTART IN THE LOWER RACING LANE. ONE FULL GREEN FLAG LAP MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE DRIVER WHO CAUSED THE PREVIOUS CAUTION OR THE RECIPIENT OF THE LUCKY DOG WILL BE ALLOWED TO UTILIZE THE RESTART CONE.
34. ONCE THE WHITE FLAG HAS BEEN THROWN FOR THE RACE LEADER, WE WILL RACE BACK TO THE CHECKERED FLAG. IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURS DURING THE FINAL LAP, THE FLAGMAN WILL ACTIVATE THE CAUTION LIGHT ALONG WITH THE GREEN TO ALERT YOU THAT THERE IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD ON THE TRACK. SPOTTERS PLEASE BE CAREFUL TO INFORM YOUR DRIVER OF THE LOCATION OF THE HAZARD. IF THE TRACK IS BLOCKED IN SUCH A WAY THAT ENDANGERS A DRIVER, THE CAUTION WILL BE DISPLAYED AND THE RACE WILL BE OVER WHICH WILL DECLARE THE LEADER AT THE WHITE FLAG THE RACE WINNER. NO SPIN TO WIN! IF THE DRIVER LEADING THE RACE IS “DUMPED” BY THE SECOND PLACE DRIVER, THEN THE DRIVER IN THIRD PLACE WILL BE DECLARED THE RACE WINNER.
35. IN ALL WEEKLY DIVISIONS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF LATE MODEL , OPEN WHEEL MODIFIED, SPORTSMAN, AND STAR SUPERTRUCKS, THE WINNER OF THE LAST RACE WILL START IN THE REAR OF THE FIELD FOR THE NEXT RACE HE OR SHE COMPETES IN. THIS APPLIES TO BOTH THE DRIVER AND THE RACE VEHICLE. IF MULTIPLE DRIVERS NEED TO FULFILL THIS REQUIREMENT IN THE SAME RACE, THEY WILL BE LINED AT THE REAR OF THE FIELD IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER OF THEIR WIN, MOST RECENT WINNER LAST.
36. VICTORY LAPS – We understand the desire to celebrate an achievement like a race win with your team and fans with an “old-school” victory lap. Huntsville Speedway wishes to preserve this tradition for the future. However, safety must be our primary concern, and in light of risks posed by this post-race activity, it is necessary to put forth guidelines to ensure the safety of all involved. Remember, being able to engage in this activity is a privilege, not a right. Therefore, any participant wishing to do a victory lap after a race win must abide by these guidelines.
- After completion of the race and the cool down lap, the race winner will pull under the flagstand to notify the flagman and/or stop and go official that they wish to do a victory lap. The car must be oriented in the direction of the normal flow of traffic on the speedway. “Reverse” victory laps will not be allowed.
- The flagman and/or stop and go official will verify that the grandstand gate and the back gate are secure and that no pedestrians have entered the track surface.
- Then and only then will the flagman and/or stop and go official give the driver the checkered flag to complete their lap. NO TEAM MEMBERS, CAR OWNERS, FAMILY, ETC. CAN CROSS THE INNER PIT WALL INTO VICTORY LANE UNTIL THE VICTORY LAP IS COMPLETE. IF THIS OCCURS, THE FLAGMAN WILL NOT ALLOW THE VICTORY LAP AND THE DRIVER WILL BE DIRECTED TO VICTORY LANE.
- Should ANY safety situation arise where the track needs to be clear for fire and safety crews to respond, the victory lap may be disallowed by the flagman. SAFETY FIRST…ALWAYS.
- The Speedway reserves the right to wave off a victory lap at any time due to any circumstance, including but not limited to foot traffic on the speedway, safety issues with another car or driver, time constraints, etc. If you pull under the flagstand and the flagman points you to victory lane, understand that we are not able to accommodate a victory lap at that time.
Prize Money
1. Drivers will be paid according to laps completed. Should the race end under a red-checkered, the finish and prize money will be the same as under a normal finish.
2. All prize money and trophies may be held on any race event until the official finishing order is released from scoring and/or official inspection is completed.
3. All prize money will be available in the speedway office immediately following that night’s race event. All prize money will be paid by company check. Prize money will be held in the office if not claimed on race night.
4. No changes will be made to finishing order after prize money has been paid.
5. Only car owner and/or driver can collect and sign for prize money. All prize money that has not been signed for will be mailed in form of a check at Huntsville Speedway’s discretion. All prize money not collected 30 days after season ends will be added to our points fund. WE WILL NOT MEET ANY DRIVER/TEAM MEMBER/CREW CHIEF/CAR OWNER at the track during the week to pickup your payoff! If it is not that important to you on race night, it is not that important to us on Wednesday.
6. A lost check fee of $40 will be levied on any driver who needs to have a replacement check issued. Huntsville Speedway will issue a new check after receiving notification from the bank that the payment of the original check has been stopped.
Point System
1. A driver will receive last place points for attempting to compete in nightly events if they have registered, paid any and all fees, and have not been disqualified. Any car not able to take the green flag on the initial start of the race event due to mechanical issues will be scored if they are able to return to the race at RACE SPEED. Any cars re-entering the track and not able to maintain race speed will be BLACK FLAGGED and SCORING WILL STOP. Any driver who is unable to compete and requests to have his/her entry/registration fees refunded for the event will be awarded NO POINTS for the event.
2. A driver can compete for points in more than one race division on any given night as long as the fees for each individual division have been paid at registration and a separate (additional) $30 pit pass has been paid for the additional car.
3. Rookie of the Year may be awarded to the driver placing highest in points for each division who is competing for their first season in that particular division. Drivers must pre-register for Rookie of the Year status at the beginning of the racing season (within the first four race events) and compete in at least 75% of the scheduled season events (not to include rain outs).
4. In the event of a tie for the season point championship, the first tiebreaker will be most race wins, followed by most top five finishes, followed by most top ten finishes, etc. Championship awards will be presented to the top five finishers in points at the end of the season at the annual Speedway banquet.
5. All points awarded will be credited to the driver (not the race vehicle).
6. After a race event has taken the initial green flag, no changes of driver may occur. If a driver is unable to continue in the race event, they will be expected to enter their pit and park their race vehicle.
7. Any disqualification will result in forfeiture of points and prize money.
8. INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICIES Any race cancelled due to a rain out, will NOT be rescheduled. Any races not completed during an event for any reason will NOT be rescheduled. Track management is diligent about monitoring weather conditions in the days and hours prior to any scheduled race event and strives to make event cancellation calls as early as possible on the day of a scheduled race event. However, circumstances may arise that are out of the control of track management. With that in mind, the following protocols will be followed in the event of a weather/natural disaster scenario after the track has opened for the day.
A. Should inclement weather develop during practice, prior to qualifying, every effort will be made to resume the regular schedule after the weather clears and the track is dried, within a reasonable time frame. If this becomes impossible, then no championship points or pay out will be awarded to any driver in any division.
B. Should inclement weather develop after qualifying, such that no racing will be possible in any division within a reasonable time frame, championship points will be awarded based on qualifying for those divisions that qualified. Last place points will be awarded to all drivers in divisions that drew for position with last place being determined by the number of drivers present for that night’s event. Any invert that was determined by dice roll will be thrown out and not considered. Drivers who would have been serving a “start in the rear” penalty for their race will serve that penalty in the next event for their division.
C. Should inclement weather develop during the course of a racing event that impedes the ability of track officials to complete the remainder of a race in progress, the race shall be deemed official and the official finishing order will be declared to be the running order of cars on track when caution is thrown for weather and championship points will be awarded accordingly. Any and all races completed prior to the interruption, will have championship points and payout awarded according to the regular protocol. Any races not completed after an event stoppage for weather will have points awarded according to the protocols outlined in section B based on whether they qualified or drew for position. D. In any unforeseen circumstance, at the discretion of track management, management may elect to call a meeting with drivers in any division to discuss how they wish to handle any given situation. In any scenario where this occurs and a vote is taken, the majority vote of the drivers present will rule. Keep in mind that track management reserves the right to make the final decision on any scenario in any circumstance.
